The title of this work is SOLID and LIQUID Seasonality in Jewellery. I was inspired by the cheap handbag warmers of my childhood, where in winter the solids in the handbag could be turned into liquids and heated by triggering the iron in the centre of the handbag. This principle of heat triggered the author's thoughts on whether jewellery can be heated and whether jewellery can be liquid or solid, taking into account the author's profession. Firstly, jewellery in the traditional sense is a combination of metal and gemstones, so the author researched and found that only metallic mercury and gallium have the lowest melting points in the periodic table of chemical elements, but the freezing point of metallic mercury is too low, so I used metallic gallium as a test subject. Gallium starts to melt at the temperate higher than 29.7 degree centigrade, and starts to solidify below 29.7 degree centigrade. This temperature 29.7 degree centigrade is common in most parts of the world. The author then tried temperature tests in refrigerators and around fireplaces, where gallium metal solidifies into a very specific geometry , and when melting , gallium is extremely similar to mercury. However, gallium metal is very corrosive and is strong in adhesion. After experimenting with various chemical reagents, a very low density alkaline solution was chosen as the medium between gallium metal and acrylic, and the temperature test was conducted again. Test results show that specific geometry of solid and liquid can still be obtained, and with certain inner structure arrangement of acrylic component stronger visual impact of gallium flow can be achieved . The author then considers that contemporary jewellery is indeed seasonal and has the potential to develop. With traditional jewellery, different styles or colours of jewellery should be worn in different seasons to give people a different visual experience, this is not strictly speaking of seasonality of jewellery but a subjective perception of colour and style.
