The work is called AVPD Hugging Device, inspired by the psychological term Avoidant Personality Disorder, which describes the barrier of emotional communication between people (due to internal estrangement). AVPD has become a new psychological disorder in the new era as it accounts for a high percentage of divorce rates worldwide. The authors wanted to put the victims of AVPD back in a hugging device, without having to make any movements, and let the device express their emotions rather than they themselves, as they are in a dilemma of wanting to communicate but not being able to. The project consists of two main parts, the acrylic arms (imitating a human arms) and the rebound device. In the case of the rebound device, the author borrowed the basic working principle of a car engine and a hydraulic device, converting two forces in opposite directions into a lever to drive the acrylic arms, thus allowing the wearer to hug each other directly through the machine without making any movements. In other words, the device helps the wearer to express the emotions they are afraid to express and to communicate with the outside world through the device. The concept of this project is similar to that of the internet, where people often spend a lot of time on various dating apps, which do bring people closer together and even allow two strangers to get acquainted with each other quickly, but how many people are still able to communicate with each other with enthusiasm when they log off and chat offline? In other words, today's technology does provide people with a lot of convenience, but will people's own original functions degrade or even disappear? When the wearer puts down the AVPD hugging device, will they have the courage to overcome their own timid character and face the person they love? People should seek a new relationship with technology in their daily lives in the face of many technologies that exist, and need to think more about whether their dependence on technology is correct while enjoying the convenience and benefits from technology.
