Qinhuangdao Marriott Resort is located in the Beidaihe New District, Qinhuangdao City, Northern China. The hotel has an interior space of nearly 39,000m2 and enjoys a 2.8-kilometer golden coastline along the Bohai Sea. The design team has made several field trips to the site and found two design challenges. Firstly, the winter in the site location is very long. From November to May of the next year, the temperature is too low for people to go to the sea. Also, the site lacks supporting infrastructure, so people cannot enjoy the sea throughout the year. Secondly, the V-shaped building perpendicular to the coastline has the inherent problem of the narrow sea view. The design team thus makes the most of the cruise-ship-shaped building by reorganizing the public area and guest rooms to create a fabulous sea view for the guests.
In order to maximize the sea view, the design team has created the public area with a circular structure and all guest rooms with a tilt of 45°. The team also elaborately introduces marine creatures and nautical elements to the space. Through the use of materials, colors, lighting, and art installations, the team presents the guests with an attractive deep sea, allowing them to discover the charm of coastal life all year round. With complementary design principles, a harmonious and elegant interior space has been created, including the lobby that brings out quietness from dynamism and the MANO bar that couples softness with hardness. The design team has created many social spaces, such as the lobby bar and outdoor pool. The team has also cleverly designed spaces such as the M CLUB and the guest rooms’ balconies to enhance guests’ inner peace. The hotel provides excellent options for both group guests and individuals.
The design team has made the Qinhuangdao Marriott Resort in North China a new landmark that allows guests to explore not only the nature and the city but also the past and the future. Qinhuangdao Marriott Resort provides excellent options for people who want to have a cozy, romantic, and deeply nurturing holiday in this northern coastal city.
