Pa-shih Concept Store - Salt Warehouse

"Pa-shih Concept Store - Salt Warehouse" is located near Changhua Train Station in an area that acted as a transportation hub during the Japanese occupation of Taiwan. The shop’s previous incarnations included those of a lumber mill, a salt warehouse, etc.



The original building was built out of cypress wood and red bricks; however, during the time it acted as a salt warehouse, salt crystals would develop from the salt evaporation process and settle to the floor. Many of these crystals stuck to the wall and have remained there to this day, creating a special layered effect on the wall. We decided to preserve and display the unique wonders of this space as it evolved over the years, so that diners might have a six-sense experience—the five basic senses plus the sense of emotion.



We used thick black iron for the façade so that a natural rust effect will build up over time. The zigzag windows are arranged in such a way that the light shining into the store will play off of different environmental elements from different angles. At night, we modify the interior space by stacking layers of different materials and different thicknesses to set off the stainless steel bar counter. Customers will experience the old times with a modern heart, which is also the heart of "Pa-shih Concept Store - Salt Warehouse"—the perfect integration of “the modern and the antique.”
