Round Case Table

In a space surrounded by cultural elements and tea, you are supposed to be immersed in tea drinking, reading and knowledge education. The Round and Square Table is inspired by the traditional eastern thought - “the dome-like heaven embraces the vast earth”, a design work exploiting “round” and “square” as two graphic elements. The design process infuses a plenty of images that are coherent to tea culture, for instance, the round center of the table board looks like new tea leaves stretching upwards, the table board edges look like the gesture of picking tea leaves. The table is structurally connected by mortise and tenon joints, making the assembling process easier. The biggest challenge is how to assemble 24 panels of different curvatures tightly into a round tabletop. Each piece of panels should be cut precisely to the extent that the mortise and tenon joints are just fit. For the sake of light weight, the outer edge of the board is only 2mm thick at the thinnest point, which is believed to a tough test for the art of hand polishing work. The case table is made of pure natural marble and Burmese teak with no use of nails in the production process. All connections are completed with the mortise and tenon structure. Such design allows the table to be disassembled into several small pieces, thus making it easy to transport and install, and very simple to operate. In addition, it avoids glue failure and rusting of iron nails, extending the using life of the table. Natural materials do not produce permanent pollution and carbon emissions. Through the natural breathing of wood, the elegant and original texture is gradually revealed after years of use and wiping.
