The Hari, Hong Kong

The Harilela family have a long history of hospitality in Hong Kong and The Hari hotel is built, owned and operated by the Harilela Group. The architecture of the Hari is a reflection of elegance and the idea of relaxation embodied by the brand, a place where visitors can relax and enjoy a taste of their city. The welcoming, public face of the reception, bars and restaurants, addresses the lively street front at Lockhart Road. The blade-like 210 guestroom tower rises above to 110m high. A vertical garden, the green wall, provides a striking and calming intervention in the streetscape at the point where the guests meet the city, on the hotel terrace.

The street frontage is given over entirely to the public realm, adding to the lively nature of the local streetscape. The whole width of the site at ground level forms a grand porte cochere, giving guests a sense of arrival into the relaxing environment of the Hari. The restaurants and bar terrace at the two upper levels provide a lively streetside aspect, under the overhanging green wall. The entire street frontage at ground level is a grand entry, with attendant public facilities. A restaurant above similarly occupies the whole facade, and a roof terrace on the third level adds a lively active space along the whole frontage. Magnifying this, an enormous three-storey high green wall above the terrace terminates the long vista towards the building along Lockhart Road, providing a vibrant oasis in the heart of the busy Wan Chai district.

The Hari is certified with LEED Silver and includes numerous energy saving systems including heat pumps, energy wheel and green walls.

The Hari Hong Kong would be a worthy winner as it is beautifully designed and engineered addition to the streetscape and skyline of this part of Wanchai District optimising an incredibly constrained site.
