Courtyard

This house was constructed using the courtyard philosophy and aimed to preserve both the fundamental design of the original house as well as the traditional spirit.



The owner's desire is for the three generations to live together in the three-storey residence. A contemporary courtyard has been created around the court by placing each room according to seniority and according to the occupants' personal preferences and habits. The public area is located on the first floor, the family's bedrooms are on the second floor, and the owner's room and the worship space are located on the third floor.



The main components of traditional Taiwanese architecture can be seen in the windows on either side and the mountain behind the home that faces north. In order to avoid exposure to the west and the outdoor pool area, the substantial bearing wall has only small windows on the east side that face the courtyard.



Designers thoroughly evaluates and restructures the family residence from external construction to interior design, in contrast to the typical interior design approach. The family will feel at ease traveling between floors, thanks to the courtyard connecting each floor and the use of natural light to make a strong statement.

In order to foster family ties, the owner also planted a family tree in the courtyard, which is visible from each room.



The traditional courtyard has been perfectly interpreted by designers. In order to help the mix of architectural concrete and wood, with the historic house as the main structure, create the ideal landscape, existing materials were decomposed, polished, and reused. The design team rearranged the traditional spirit to fulfil the owners' vision so as to finish the Courtyard.
