Mandarlin Lane

Located in the contemporary city of Shenzhen, China, the project designed by BY Studio expressed oriental garden thinking in a modern landscape form which transformed classical and oriental ingenuity into imagination, creating a natural poetic space and reflecting the truly poetic living conditions. With the design concept of a lake among stones, Mandarlin Lane creates a garden space to reflect the three-dimensional landscape garden that sees much more behind the small details. The project uses light and shadow to describe art, where people, the space, and nature dance together, explore urban living spaces from a contemporary perspective and interpret the aesthetics of oriental garden landscapes. There are two main challenges on the site: the north is high while the south is low, with a height difference of about 2.5 meters; and the impact of the 20-meter-high viaduct outside the gate. Facing the urban hustle and bustle, landscape designers strive to achieve a relative balance between man, city, and nature through ingenuity. The landscape design adopts the concept of a secret courtyard in the cave hidden in the busy city and creates an atmosphere through lines, textures, light, and shadow, bringing a hidden and static slow-time life attitude. The design team created a floating building at the entrance to achieve a good view. Meanwhile, it avoided the influence of the viaduct and created a three-dimensional cave, creating a courtyard with a hidden universe. Turning from the city street to Mandarlin Lane, the main entrance opens up another dimension of time and space. The highly recognizable marble is neat, and the calm style is full of connotations, giving people the desire to see deep inside. The natural texture of marble and inlaid metal collide to form the simple oriental artistic conception, highlighting the artistry and quality of the space. The overall low saturation style combined with the refreshing natural water space makes the body perception of people entering the secret of the garden in the forest.
