Located in the Liangzhu Cultural Village to the northwest of Hangzhou’s main city, the Jade Bird and Tassel Commercial Street is adjacent to the famous Liangzhu Cultural Heritage Park and has an ecological environment that combines hilly greenery and water network plains nearest to the center of Hangzhou. It aims to inherit its unique “Liangzhu style” cultural lineage, create a dynamic and developable “warm” space, and continuously promote the flourishing development of the whole cultural village.
To a great extent, the architecture also refines the traditional local cultural elements of the ancient city of Liangzhu. The overall composition of the large roof, the support of the colonnades, and the base of the landscape micro-terrain are all derived from the structural prototypes of the Liangzhu culture, without losing the characteristics of the traditional customs of Jiangnan.
The materials used in the construction are also closely related to the natural ecology and historical culture, inheriting the past and connecting with the present. The materials and colors of the traditional elements of Liangzhu ancient city are extracted and combined with the design of roof and façade of Jiangnan dwellings to interpret the Liangzhu style with exquisite and innovative modern architectural techniques.
The individual building is flexible and versatile in function, with kitchen and logistics space reserved to ensure the controllability of the functional business. The supermarket building continues the sloping roof language of the old Liangzhu period, reducing the sense of building volume with the combination of multiple roofs, forming a bright and transparent double-height interior space, and providing a large public corridor open to urban citizens. The newly built food street for villagers is shaped with a light umbrella-like roof to create a unique semi-outdoor dining space facing the lawn to the north and the commercial street to the south, fully solving the problem of independent logistics and dining flow.
