Jinyun Cinema was built in 1986, which is highly praised for its unique asymmetric tower design and the new vernacular architectural appearance of green, red and purple stone. There are many fire hazards in the historical blocks around the original building and no public space where is necessary. A sense of decay was being presented in generally on account of high density, mixture of old and new, and scale imbalance. The unique historical building as a pearl covered with dust, which shall be thoroughly overhaul to sparkle previously.

The basic conditions for the operation of the cinema in the future has been completely lost because the facilities in the cinema's screening hall are obsolete. After investigation, the architect found that the local traditional Wu Opera in Jinyun is extremely active, so the old cinema which will be proposed to be a local site for the intangible cultural heritage show is necessary to be repaired and transformed.

The quality of the external facade around the main structure with local characteristics is acceptable. We followed the principle of authenticity protection and retained through cleaning as much as possible, and only replaced the face bricks of partially weathered or damaged stones to a minimum. Instead, the stone and face brick were replaced as closely as possible to the color and texture of the original building, but the old part and the new part still can be clearly distinguished.

The original waterscape garden on the east has long since disappeared. Combined with the high density of the blocks around the cinema, the architect believed that it was extremely necessary to replace the existing ticket booth with a leisure plaza around the corner. It has been given the seemly daily utility by the partial subsidence of the plaza floor, the setting of leisure seats and the embellishment of tall trees designed in the landscape, which has been conducive to improving the quality of daily life of surrounding residents.
