Seeking the cultural traces of rice wine, we found that rice wine had been squeezed out of the privileged status on formal occasions by liquor since the founding of the Republic of China and the memory of many wine culture enthusiasts lingers on that period. The package design with the perceived feeling of the Republic of China is expected to recall the lapsed impression on rice wine. The package box is made of hand-made paper. The yellowing pulp made from the ancient hand technique delivers a distinctive retro feeling. For the sake of environmental protection, relevant processes are selectively organized to guarantee harmless recycling and disposal of the box. The front part of the packaging bears three words “LAO HUANG JIU” (the Chinese spelling of rice wine) in an abstract form, so that a complete light blue ribbon is shaped as the visual focus of the whole package. The vernacular Chinese words and the freehand writing are perceived lively. Compared to the complex design of most wine packages available on the market, this design is expected to be closer to ordinary people. The box is designed as an irregular geometry, a special form extremely convenient for user to take.
