Stream Wonderland Mansion, Xiamen

Xixi River is the largest river in Tongan District and even Xiamen City, China, it is the main source of water for living in the district, nurturing generations of Tongan people, and it has become a wonderful memory of the past for people in Xiamen. It is also the home of egrets. Whenever the tidal sluice gate is opened, a large number of sea fish gush into the gate with the tide, attracting flocks of egrets and forming a unique scenery in Xixi.

The design used the building as the mountain and the landscape as the water, with the "stream" flowing out from the "mountain" and merging into the Xixi River, making the tour route to follow the flying egrets and explore the spiritual residence. The design team hoped that it could highlight the characteristics of the city, evoked a familiar and intimate atmosphere, and struck a chord.

In terms of craft, the design incorporated Tongan elements in many places. The project occupied an area of 2,500 square meters. The entrance was finely carved with the pattern of decorative curves of the grille, extracted from the ripples of Xixi River. The details of the decorative light strips under the corridor were extracted from the decorative elements of Minnan dwellings, with the intermittent modeling grille to create a rhythmic touring experience. At the end of the canal was a sculpture combined with a waterscape of stacked waterfalls, echoing one of the eight scenes of Tongan, the copper fish watching waterfall. The center of the water surface was an artistic sculpture abstracted from the element of egret, which resembled the gesture of egret landing on the water. The designers were committed to creating a poetic residence in the company of egrets, a journey to find a stream to enter.
