Zhongyang School & Shante Central Kindergarten · Shantou

The project is located in the Xinxi area of Donghai Coast New Town, Longhu District, Shantou, Guangdong Province, adjacent to Xingjin River Qiaoyun Park and near the sea, enjoying a picturesque environment. The project includes a kindergarten and a Nine Year Continuous Basic Education (NYCBE) school with a capacity of 54 classes.

The growing emphasis on social skills, creativity and autonomy in the development of students requires a balanced approach between the pursuit of efficiency, control and security in the traditional domestic education model and the creation of more stimulating spaces. With this in mind, the design concept of "Smart Valley - Cloud Valley" has been developed:

"Smart Valley Space": This area is created by linking the architectural forms of the primary and secondary school sections, which are connected to the main school entrance and sports field to form a "Smart Valley" central axis. This axis connects various public functions and vibrant spaces, incorporates green ecology, and forms an interconnected "Smart Valley Space" that becomes a nexus for student interaction and communication.

"Cloud Valley Playground": Designed with childlike wonder in mind, the kindergarten structure embodies a whimsical "doughnut" shape. Organized through a spatial sequence that includes the entrance plaza, an open-air lobby, a central courtyard, public vertical transportation, and a rooftop activity platform, it creates a playful path that connects the plaza, courtyard, and rooftop. This interconnected journey creates a whimsical "Cloud Valley Playground" enriched with the colors of childhood.
