Joy of Hunan Cuisine

This interior design case relates to a Hunan cuisine restaurant based in Shanghai, China. The project is adjacent to the Huangpu River, a famous river in Shanghai. Capitalizing on its adjacency to the river view, the interior atmosphere of the restaurant is fostered in close connection with the theme of Xiaoxiang Culture. The dominant hue of the restaurant is Chinese classic red, the landscape construction and planning techniques of Chinese classical garden culture are infused as a part of the interior design, in order to give diners an access to the fascinating view of the flexible, unaffected decoration in every corner by using a special technique, as if all diners were placed in the tranquility and appeal of a classical garden. Stepping in the restaurant, you will see a void space on a 1:3 split ratio. The column lanterns on one side, the well-ordered lines, and the hidden dark tone lighting design, are readily understood as showing due respect. The art installation placed in the center of the front hall displays two goldfish that seem to be swimming in the air. Through the hazy metal mesh structure, light and shadow project the profile of the agile big fish on the water surface. The design not only coincides with the cultural concept of void and solid, but also captures visual attention. The water features on both sides of the bottom of the installation follow the hierarchical order, unveil the implication that Xiangjiang Culture thrives for water, and encloses the front space of the restaurant into an area serving reception, visit and negotiation. As you move in, you will see a public sitting area and indoor private rooms. These two zones make the interior space diverse and interactive. Looking out from a private room, you will be impressed by the fascinating natural landscape. Staying in room, you will have a wide-open riverside view. Both views are coherent with each other and deliver different visual experiences to diners.
