The lighting design for the heritage park incorporates the historical and cultural characteristics of Chongqing, emphasizing the temporal differences between the new and old cityscapes along the Yangtze River. The distinctive nighttime lighting serves as a cultural symbol representing old Chongqing, visible from across the river, and creates an engaging leisure destination for those traversing the Yangtze River. Lighting on the roofs highlights the natural distribution and visual characteristics of the buildings with a 72-meter elevation difference, whilst accentuating the city’s unique geomorphic features.

The project, as an embodiment of Eastern and Western cultures, resorts to lighting design to emphasize the architectural integration of the two cultures. The architecture and landscape accentuate the overall leisure atmosphere, preserving historical characteristics during the day while guiding the way through lighting at night. The landscape seamlessly blends with the architecture, allowing visitors to experience the nighttime environment as they move through different settings. In consideration of functionality, the lighting design focuses on specific areas such as an expansive landscape platform that offers a panorama view of the cityscape on the other side of the river. Additionally, hidden lamps are employed to minimize visual obstructions and reduce interference. The skateboard park prioritizes both safe lighting and visually appealing graffiti.

For the seven protected heritage buildings within the project site, appropriate lighting fixtures were exclusively designed in new replacement positions, with no fixtures installed in the old building parts to ensure their preservation. To enhance energy efficiency and operational flexibility, the design has incorporated various control modes, including holiday, weekday, and late-night modes. Multiple control loops have been categorized to ensure flexible regulation and energy saving in future operations. This approach ensures that the project’s operation can be optimized according to actual needs while conserving energy.
