Sakura-Court House

This is a four-building subdivision in a narrow residential area in Tokyo. We designed a pathway running through the site from east to west and a common garden with cherry blossoms in the center of this development. And also, we created Interior design incorporates the openness and beautiful scenery view by common space into each house. And then, we aimed to create a town that nurtures rich emotions in children and to foster communication between residents by providing a common space with symbol tree where residents can interact with each other on a daily basis.

In Japan, we usually built a house on a each single site for housing development. This development area is located in the suburbs of Tokyo with a high concentration of detached houses with a lot size of 100-120㎡. Most of these houses are fenced in, and there is only a yard of little garden lefted after keep out of spaces for building and garage. Townscapes formed from these housing leave a strong impression of being cramped each other, and because of the sense of each individual living individually, there is little connection with the neighborhood.Our goal is to create a sustainable town where people will love living for a long time.

The plan was designed so that the symbolic cherry tree, located in the center of the common garden, can be seen beautifully from each unit. Large picture windows and balconies are placed in the living room where residents can relax while viewing at the garden, and the garden is arranged so that residents can enjoy not only the cherry blossoms, but also the seasonal plantings. The residents can enjoy the scenery of each season, and this empathy fosters a good sense of community.
