2024 Central Taiwan Lantern Festival “Taichung Bravo”

When it comes to Taichung City, “joyful and livable” is often the first impression. The city has kept abundant parks and greens. During a Lantern Festival event, installations are placed in the urban landscape. Based on existing facilities and the retention pond at the Central Park, we design the largest mechanical lantern installation on the water.
Above the 110-meter-long retention pool, a large dragon lantern is placed (12 meters in height and 76 meters in length). Mechanical components are covered by traditional lanterns. Its body and head are raised by motors. To ensure its dynamics, we use 3D simulations to coordinate with structural, production, lighting, and stereo teams for innovations and breakthroughs.
The lantern performance is designed with dramaturgy. Besides the dragon lantern and LED light bars, other lanterns are placed on motorboats. Flowing lanterns, dancers and the dragon lantern deliver an innovative and entertaining experience. The performance begins with piano. Music and over a hundred light compositions become a mesmerizing and unprecedented visual experience.
