The Illuminated Arcs: Skate Lines is a group of 5 sculptures created for Ironworks Plaza, a Parks and Recreation riverfront development project. The designs were inspired by the free, fluid feeling of ice skating and the graceful lines that skates leave behind on the ice.
These arcs, composed in space, create sculptures that evoke different aspects of skating as referenced in their titles: "Pair", "Skate", "Spin" and "Criss Cross". Together they reflect the nature of relationship, how one arc interacts with the other. They use form and illuminated color to create a visual dialog between them.
The stainless-steel and glass sculptural forms are showcased during the day, while the night adds a dynamic expression of illuminated color. James Brenner Sculpture teamed up with Schuler Shook Lighting Design to create innovative "shows" that are integrated with the animated fog garden, landscape and building lighting systems and support the development.
