Ji Yun Yao Resort is located in Yaoshan Village, Conghua District, Guangzhou, a traditional village preserving natural landscapes and Hakka culture. Leveraging the superior natural landscape, the owner aims to establish a light luxury resort targeted at the Greater Bay Area clientele. As a typical southern Hakka village, the site’s rammed earth residences are nearly collapsed or dismantled. The project plans to renew the site, guided by landscape experiences, reconstructing the settlement to meet new hotel needs. The resort includes 18 mountain-view guest rooms, a cultural experience center converted from an old ancestral hall, and other hotel amenities. Due to significant elevation differences, the design establishes a hierarchical relationship among individual buildings, clusters, and settlements, situating guest rooms at various heights to provide diverse landscape views. The site incorporates landscape design, creating an ambiance of tracing streams upwards through winding brooks and rich experiences along the way, invoking memories of Hakka settlements. The design retains the old rammed earth bricks and multicolored tiles, using modern techniques like light steel structures and glass curtain walls to enhance thermal comfort. The guest rooms feature reinforced concrete structures, with forms echoing the structural design, using wall panels to support the roofs. Rammed earth-like coatings, stone tiles, and wood-colored flooring emphasize harmony with the environment while creating a unique holiday atmosphere.
