The ‘Wood-philic’ concept is derived from the word ‘biophilic,’ with wood being the key component, reflecting the client’s favorite natural material. The designer took the opportunity to incorporate wood through various interior and architectural interpretations to enhance the spatial quality, not only by utilizing its natural color and grain but also by integrating disciplined rhythms in the design details. The inclusion of green pockets, strategically integrated into the internal layout in various vertical and horizontal interlocking manners, allows the wood to work harmoniously with plants, creating a serene yet minimalistic ambiance. This ambiance is intended as the foundational format to generate positive energy for the space, the culture, and the occupants of the house.
Addressing the client’s big-picture mindset:
The design begins by recreating common spaces such as the living room, kitchen, and entertainment area through better proportion exploration. This includes recreating good proportions by removing or adding walls and exploring interesting volumetric spaces. Spatial quality was further enhanced by creating green pockets, allowing plants to interact closely with daily living.
Addressing the client’s clarity of mindset and desire for serenity with a premium ambiance:
This is expressed through the contrast between dark-varnished wood tones (the client’s favorite) and the greyish tones of textured stones, elegantly placed over white and clean bright surfaces. Camouflaged doors and panels were used to achieve a clean, overall look. The character of the spaces was further embellished through controlled use of color, forms, and shapes in loose furniture and decoration.
Expressing the discipline of humble living and appreciation for meticulous details:
This is achieved through the proportional lines and grooves in the design forms and surfaces, creating a large-scale design language that is humbly dynamic. Loud and fanciful color combinations were carefully avoided.
