The site used to be a chemical factory that producing explosives for mining excavation. In this renovation project, the abandon factory is now reborn as a resort hotel with special experiences inherited from the industrial relics.
The existing buildings within the site can be categorized into residential and production areas based on their functions. The residential area buildings are mostly common office, which have relatively low value for preservation and renovation. In contrast, the production area buildings are more unique in form, including production lines, blast walls, safety passages, and various formats of plant buildings with different layouts. These structures possess higher preservation value and potential for renovation and upgrading, making the production area the ideal location for the main functions of the hotel conversion.
In our design, we have preserved the original industrial relics and cultural value, integrating or reconstructing architectural elements under a unified storyline to create a contrast between the old and new building elements.
Preservation of Industrial Relics: We have retained and extended the industrial relic symbols scattered throughout the site as important historical memories.
Expansion of the Central Water Area: The original central water area has been expanded, and a reception lobby and botanical garden are established at this location, connected to various guest rooms by corridors. The lobby’s eco greenhouse will distill the campus’ unique features into a modern language, creating a unique spatial experience.
Historical Preservation and Renovation: The original production area on the site had three different types of explosive production lines and distinctive blast wall tunnels. We preserved the buildings with historical significance and updated them according to functional requirements. The three explosive production lines, combined with the blast walls, will be transformed into three guest room areas, each offering a different experience.
Facade Material Refinement: We have refined the unique facade materials from the existing buildings along the explosive production lines, incorporating zinc panels as a new material to achieve unity while maintaining differences.
