Sign of the Times, Cosmopolitan is a sculptural home that is quiet and, at the same time, vivid; A soft silhouette, an organic narrative. Arches are a signifier of time - they have been around and in different countries and contexts for a long time. Expressing arches in interiors is a joy because it tells of the time and era. This project is designed with the intention to embrace the aesthetics of different times, such as maximizing the bay windows, to create something with great allure and practicality.
Cosmopolitan is a 1,400 sqft condominium situated in River Valley, the central region of Singapore, constructed in 2008 during a period when bay windows were prevalent in condominium developments. Our objective was to curate a space that is not only inviting in its atmosphere but also thoughtful in spatial planning. To maximize the utility of the bay windows, a comprehensive reconfiguration of the master bathroom was undertaken. Previously parallel to the shower, the bay windows now host a double sink vanity, offering a breath-taking view of the skyline from the 18th floor. What was once merely a dull bay window becomes a point of visual interest.
The inspiration for the project was exclusive to the inhabitants’ lifestyles and habits. The primary objective was to create a space that mirrors a slow-living pace. This project endeavours to marry trends of different times – bay windows of the 2010s, and inspiration from the historical, yet trendy use of arches across various timelines.
