Exploring intergenerational lifestyle patterns was the core consideration at the beginning of this design. The designer translated this idea into the concept of 'symbiosis,' which refers to a mode of living where contemporary elders and younger generations coexist. The key to the design of the 'symbiosis' living space lies in balancing the shared and private domains between generational groups. The designer integrated different ages and lifestyles, dividing the space into three distinct functional levels: the first floor serves as an interactive space for the owner and their elders, which also represents the balance between 'independence' and 'symbiosis'; the second floor is the living area for the elders, along with guest rooms; the third floor is a private space exclusively for the owner. Each resident experiences both independence and meaningful connections without being affected by generational gaps or differing living habits. Ultimately, this creates a residential space that seamlessly combines social interaction, work, family engagement, and independent living. Moreover, this project discards luxurious and overly elaborate decor, instead embracing the essence of 'wabi-sabi' through grayscale artistic finishes and wooden furniture. In terms of circulation design, the principle of 'even simplicity should have spatial richness' was followed, skillfully avoiding the interference caused by the different living patterns of generational groups. These elements together create an ideal living scenario, where every family member can feel a sense of nature and harmony upon returning home, making the residence a sanctuary for their souls.
