Steam District

The design of Steam District is based on the concept of "anti-refinement," emphasizing the preservation of the original textures of walls, floors, and beams to create a rugged industrial style. While essential plumbing, electrical work, and structural modifications are handled by a professional team, most of the work is carried out collaboratively by the project’s participants.

The design extensively utilizes reclaimed materials and donated furniture from friends. Through creative repurposing, these items not only meet aesthetic needs but also imbue the space with a distinctive cultural charm. The use of hand-drawn menus, wall graffiti, and line illustrations further reinforces the return-to-authenticity design philosophy. This approach aligns with contemporary young people's pursuit of a natural and unadorned lifestyle while significantly controlling renovation costs.

By using reclaimed wood and second-hand furniture, the Steam District creates a unique space that combines vintage and creative atmospheres, highlighting both environmental sustainability and imaginative design.
