HISTORY MUSEUM OF XI'AN ACADEMY OF FINE ARTS

Located within the Xi'an Academy of Fine Arts in Xi'an, Shaanxi Province, this exhibition hall presents the academy’s history from its founding in 1949, showcasing its development in tandem with the growth of the nation. Through detailed models and artifacts, the exhibit tells the vivid story of the academy’s artistic journey, highlighting its legacy of nurturing generations of artists.
The design of the exhibition space draws inspiration from the medium of paper, which holds deep significance in Chinese art history. Central to the design is the theme “Layers of Cultural Heritage in Xi’an Academy”, symbolizing the transmission of artistic traditions across generations. The exhibit features models of the academy's campuses from various periods, and tilted mirrored stainless-steel panels are positioned above the models, allowing visitors to view both the front and top. This innovative presentation connects the past with the present, offering a glimpse into the academy’s ongoing evolution and future aspirations.
The overall design philosophy of the exhibition is encapsulated in the idea of “Inheriting Tradition, Innovating Xi'an Academy”. The space emphasizes depth, culture, and history, with dark-toned materials on the floors and ceilings to create an immersive, contemplative atmosphere. Semi-transparent structures inspired by paper interweave through the exhibit, providing visual continuity between sections. Interactive digital displays, projections, and multimedia content bring the academy's rich history to life, engaging visitors and allowing them to connect emotionally with key moments in the academy’s past.
The exhibition also honors the 75 years of alumni from Xi'an Academy of Fine Arts, celebrating the school's significant role in shaping Chinese art. By highlighting the academy’s achievements and its collaboration with the country’s development, the exhibition offers a moving tribute to its legacy, contributions, and the enduring spirit of innovation.
