As Chinese New Year remains the most significant traditional festival, its customary elements have begun to feel outdated among younger generations. The challenge is clear: to find a fresh and meaningful way to reconnect with them.
To rekindle their connection to these traditions, we took inspiration from the growing trend of young people visiting temples and hanging Chinese fortune sticks to hope for the best outcomes, which led to the creation of a "Chinese Fortune Sticks" packaging. The design reimagines traditional elements with a modern twist, seamlessly blending them with the younger generation’s desire for emotional value and contemporary relevance.
The design breathes new life into cultural symbols through three themed blessings:
• Phoenix Arrival conveys wishes for health, prosperity, and success.
• Koi in Waves symbolises career achievements, wealth, and harmony.
• Lion Dance for Fortune expresses hopes for wealth and good fortune.
Consumers can interact with packaging by peeling off the bold lucky word sticker to reveal a surprise fortune poem underneath. The platinum relief technique adds a touch of luxury and gifting feature. It resonates with young consumers’ desire for emotional connection while breathing new life into the festive spirit of Chinese New Year.
