The project is situated in the western suburbs of Shanghai, where the original structure was first built in the late 1990s. The designers initiated a full-scale renovation of the house inside out to maximize the use of the original structural framework, so it would accommodate modern lifestyle and enhance the aesthetic appeal of the building.

As a detached residential house, the overall design focuses on reducing the form by eliminating outdated and intricate decorative features, optimizing the interior layout, and adjusting functional aspects, with a view to accentuating the fundamental shape of the building and facilitating smooth spatial traffic transitions.

The facade, adorned with pure white paint, is accentuated by clean geometric lines and large lattice windows. This combination redefines the building's modern aesthetic, establishing a clear visual hierarchy and an overall atmospheric quality, and emphasizing the impact of clean lines and the interplay of light and shadow.

The extensive use of windows and doors ensures panoramic views and an abundance of natural light, while the design details of the grille windows add to sophistication and a nuanced visual hierarchy. This approach not only fosters a harmonious fusion between the building and its natural surroundings but also enhances its openness and accessibility.

The black metal trim lines at the roof gable are mirrored in the dark hues of the window and door frames, creating a striking visual contrast against the pure white walls. This classic black and white color scheme exerts a powerful visual impact, which in turn accentuates the building's modern and sophisticated ambiance.

In consideration of achieving visual coherence with the neighboring structures, the designers preserved the original roof shape and refined the eaves, enriching the building's skyline and introducing a sense of dynamism without compromising its simplicity. The overhanging elements and staggered floor design disrupt the monotony that is often associated with traditional architecture.

The comprehensive design efforts have revitalized the vintage house, resulting in an ideal and comfortable living space that aligns with the demands of modern society.
