The museum integrates functions such as exhibition, scientific research and education. With a total construction area of more than 16,000 square meters and an exhibition area of over 9,000 square meters, it covers the combined lobby of three museums, the history hall, the contemporary hall, the famous city hall and the supporting space of the podium building.

In terms of architectural space design, a new combined lobby for the three museums has been added to integrate the originally independent spaces such as the Ceramic History Museum, the World Ceramic Culture Museum, the Famous Historical and Cultural City Museum and the podium building, forming a ceramic museum with the lobby as the evacuation and connection space. The building structure is optimized, and the representative modeling element “flat bean double bird phoenix tail zun” of Lǐlíng underglaze polychrome is extracted to create a column-free space, ensuring the agility of the lobby and reflecting the theme adaptability. The history hall displays the development of Lǐlíng porcelain industry from prehistory to the early Qing Dynasty, focusing on presenting the brilliant chapter in the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China, such as the establishment of Hunan Porcelain School and the creation of underglaze polychrome porcelain. The prelude hall starts with bas-relief, round relief combined with LED screen display, and also presents round sculptures of Xiong Xiling and the scene restoration of Weishan kiln site. The contemporary hall shows the development process of Lǐlíng underglaze polychrome after the founding of New China and the brilliance of the “national porcelain” road, using forms such as streaming media walls to present achievements at different stages. The tail hall takes “Lǐlíng Ceramics, Sailing the World” as its theme, and the multimedia sail device symbolizes going global. The newly-built museum ranks among the top three in the country in terms of exhibition area, grade and quantity of exhibits among ceramic-themed museums. It is Lǐlín’s cultural business card and helps promote the development of the ceramic industry.
