Dialect connection

In China, some elderly people, known as "Old Drifters," move to care for their grandchildren in other places and fac

e loneliness due to language barriers. To address this, I designed a smartwatch, a communication smart sign, and an app to h

elp them connect with others who speak the same dialect and keep their families updated. The project focuses on age-friendly, innovative solutions to overcome language-related isolation.

The design includes three key elements: a Smart Stop, a Smartwatch, and a Family App. The Smart Stop is a physical station where elderly people can upload and download dialect recordings, facilitating social connections with others who speak the same dialect. The Smartwatch enables the elderly to record and share their voices, connect with others, and receive updates from their family. The Family App allows family members to stay informed about the elderly's activities and emotional well-being.

Smart Stop:

Provides a platform for uploading and downloading recordings, where elderly people can connect with others who speak their dialects.

Allows them to interact in familiar ways and meet people who share similar cultural backgrounds.

Smartwatch:

Offers an easy interface for elderly people to record messages in their dialect and share them with others.

Enables communication with potential friends and family through a simple button interface, designed for ease of use by seniors with limited tech skills.

Family App:

Provides family members with real-time updates about the elderly’s emotional and physical status, helping alleviate feelings of loneliness and isolation.

The app gives insights into the elderly’s social interactions, location, and well-being, fostering a sense of connection with their family.
