In the architectural mass design, this project draws inspiration from the King’s Boat, translating its form to symbolize both the King’s Boat and the ocean. The layout responds to the site conditions, with the building positioned near a park and greenbelt. It is set back appropriately to create a pedestrian-friendly plaza. The folded base structure, featuring transparent glass windows, reduces the sense of mass and mimics the dynamic motion of ocean waves. The elevated angular lines define the entrance, forming a symbolic connection between the town and the cultural center.
An opening on the upper facade represents the "Dragon Eye" of the King’s Boat while surrounding circular perforations resemble splashing water droplets, reinforcing the connection between the building and the imagery of the festival. Additionally, an observation deck on the eastern rooftop strengthens the relationship between people and the sea, offering an immersive cultural experience.
For the facade materials, textured GRC panels are used to reflect marine elements. The variation in texture interacts with the southern sunlight, creating dynamic light and shadow effects throughout the day.
As visitors enter, they transition from the bustling secular world into a sacred space of religious tradition. The high-ceiling atrium, combined with an open void design, creates a spatial scale imbued with a sense of divinity. This void area is enclosed with translucent expanded metal mesh, whose perforations allow visual permeability, breaking away from the conventional black-box exhibition space. The mesh design mimics the fluid motion of ocean waves while also serving as an acoustic buffer, minimizing sound reflection and enhancing tranquility. As a result, the entry atrium plaza becomes a sacred, meditative space for spiritual reflection.
On the third floor, a national treasure-level master shipbuilder will construct a full-scale (1:1) ceremonial King’s Boat inside the cultural center during the museum’s construction period. The prow of the vessel will extend into the atrium void, bathed in natural light from the skylight above, symbolizing the connection between the human and the divine.
