The project, inspired from the aesthetics of Jiangnan gardens, is situated along the banks of the historic canal in Yangzhou. It utilizes the concept of “Green Mountains, Green Water” by Liu Songnian, a renowned painter from the Southern Song Dynasty, as a foundational element. By employing spatial arrangements and refined landscaping techniques, the project evokes the poetic essence of classical landscape paintings characterized by“small bridges, flowing water, and homes”. The object is to craft a landscape masterpiece that seamlessly merges the features of Yangzhou with the allure of Jiangnan gardens.
The integration of surrounding commercial areas and a community hotel-style entrance embodies the idea of a “city cover” through a fluid interface design. The commercial frontage along the street pays homage to the historical lineage of the Guoqing Road business district, while establishing three prominent alley spaces infused with Jiangnan characteristics: Flower Alley, Lixi Alley, and Daiwa Alley. These spaces seamlessly blend traditional street culture with modern design principles.
The focal point of the main entrance features an ancient Ziwei tree, symbolizing "Purple Breath Comes from the East", which represents good fortune and prosperity and enhances the ceremonial atmosphere.
The clubhouse connects to the gallery area, and the sunken courtyard employs the traditional Yangzhou technique of stone stacking to create a "landscape pavilion" theme, delivering an immersive three-dimensional spatial experience. A six-meter-high waterfall flows down, evoking the sensation of "water descending from the sky", serving as the emotional centerpiece of the space.
The project pathways are constructed from fundamental materials such as Angola Black and Star River Dark Gray, complemented by decorative parquetry and distinctive textures like green bricks. The overall facade is predominantly adorned in hues of bronze gold, dark gray curry, and translucent green, enhanced by striking materials such as Amazon green extravagant stone, hand-forged metal, and liquid marble, achieving a subtle expression of luxury. In the entrance wall, corner wall, and other structural elements, the corner details showcase Yangzhou's unique traditional craftsmanship, reflecting the essence of the ancient city and creating a harmonious resonance between tradition and modernity.
