The “Pioneering East Rift Valley Granary Festivities” is a long-term rural innovation initiative that reimagines the countryside through the lenses of art, land, and community. Since 2019, the project has invited artists from Taiwan and abroad to create site-specific land art and large-scale installations throughout the East Rift Valley in eastern Taiwan.
By systematically integrating local industries and offering landscape tours, creative workshops, and themed travel experiences, the program has effectively increased both the frequency and duration of tourist visits. As of 2024, the project has attracted over 7.18 million visits and generated approximately NT$2.7 billion (≈ USD 87 million) in regional economic benefits through rural tourism and cultural consumption.
In 2025, the project continues its momentum by inviting 12 artist teams from South Korea, France, South Africa, the United States, Germany, and Taiwan. These diverse artists contribute to the valley with cross-cultural perspectives and creative interventions, further enriching the cultural layers of the landscape and fostering international exchange.
This initiative redefines the potential of rural aesthetics and place-based marketing, successfully establishing a cultural brand where art, land, and community converge. Over time, it has cultivated a unique and internationally recognizable identity for Taiwan’s East Rift Valley.
