Griplus is an adaptive gripping tool designed to support individuals with reduced hand function, such as arthritis patients and elderly users.

Its modular design allows users to perform daily tasks—writing, eating, brushing, or drawing—using interchangeable tool heads that can be operated with a consistent grip posture.

While most assistive tools target a specific hand motion or symptom stage, Griplus addresses long-term usability. The handle integrates flexible TPU holders and EVA foam surfaces, creating comfort without requiring finger strength or dexterity. A thumb support system stabilizes the tool while accommodating various hand sizes and degrees of mobility.

Griplus allows users to securely attach common items like pens, forks, or toothbrushes via an easy-to-turn knob. The modular design supports tool-free exchange, making it accessible even to those with severe joint limitations. It ensures consistent muscle memory and user confidence across different tasks.

In its development, Griplus went through multiple rounds of prototyping—from cardboard to rigid and flexible resin prints. User testing included participants of varying hand conditions and mobility stages. The final model was optimized for ergonomics, angle adjustability, and long-term comfort.

To support long-term accessibility and customization, we envision building a cloud-based platform where users can upload their own modified tool heads and download others’ shared designs. Custom-fit modules—adjusted for different hand sizes, conditions, or age groups—could be 3D printed at home or through local hubs. With proper oversight by professionals, this system would offer open, collaborative, and personally adaptable assistive design to meet evolving user needs.
