The residence in Neihu, Taipei, takes inspiration from Japanese aesthetics of light and emptiness, answering the homeowners’ desire for brightness and simplicity. Using a base palette of pure white and wood tones, and employing low-impact materials like natural veneer and oil-based paint, the space supports airflow and daylight while eliminating energy-heavy materials like marble.
The original structure is retained, but reimagined with a vertical light axis—a 4.6-meter strip that runs up the TV wall and joins with the wood-paneled mezzanine ceiling, forming a dialogue between lower and upper levels. The floating entry cabinet and TV wall become a diptych of real and reflected life. In this quiet interplay of light and wood, the design embraces “less is more” as a way of life—quietly cultivating moments of family joy.
