The Xien Fung Dui Settlement Exhibition was curated under the theme “The Wanluan You Know and the Wanluan You Don’t,” extending the spirit of Liugdui settlement walks to challenge Wanluan’s stereotype as “only pork knuckles.” Instead, it reconstructed a multi-layered narrative of place.
For the first time, the team employed a “satellite exhibition” model, linking the Liu Family Da-Wo Clan House, the Zhong Family Wancheng Ancestral Hall, and Fruit Mine on Pork Knuckle Street. Through architectural clusters, stories of returning youth entrepreneurs, and alleyway spaces, the exhibition revealed Hakka craftsmanship, folk festivals, and living memories.
The exhibition intersected with the Clan House Arts Festival and Lantern Festival’s “Jiám pau sǎng,” with guided tours leading visitors deep into alleys to encounter Hakka crafts and foods. Curatorial methods respected heritage architecture, preserving patterned tiles, timber frames, and gabled walls. Handmade crafts and wooden elements were paired with multimedia installations to stage a dialogue between tradition and modernity. Audiences not only heard stories and practiced crafts but also discovered youthful energy in local shops, linking culture, industry, and environment into a revitalized life force for settlements.
