Chatterbox at MGM Macau

The New Chatterbox Café is integrated in MGM Macau as the brand’s signature modern tropical home aesthetic into a dazzling space of color, shine and nature-based fantasy.
The design invites guests into a jewel-toned world where graceful architectural forms, polished brass accents, and lush tropical scenes create a sense of energized glamour while still honoring the refined yet relaxed hospitality that defines the Chatterbox dining experience.
The Macau outpost pays homage to the flagship Chatterbox in Singapore also designed by EDG in 2021 and which has since served as a template for other locations across the region. For Macau, however, the client envisioned a bolder, more impactful interpretation. The restaurant’s exterior wall and entrance, set along a pedestrian corridor, was designed as a series of graceful archways sculpted in bent metal and acrylic with patterned glass insets. The arcade, a nod to traditional colonial architecture, lures passers-by with its soft glow and sets the scene for the enchanting dining experience inside. The arched forms are repeated in the inner dining area as a ceiling detail that leads the eye to a wall of vertically paneled mirrors that turn another structural element into an intriguing and engaging visual element.
As in the Singapore location, custom-designed, floor-to-ceiling open-shelved case goods define zones throughout the restaurant, but here with subdued black metals and cool woods are replaced with gleaming polished brass and glass. Seating is upholstered in jewel tones inspired by tropical flora bronzed reds, warm yellows, and verdant greens. The palette also creates a dialogue with the captivating original artwork created by Singapore-based artist Messymsxi for the restaurant. Displayed as side-illuminated panels along the back wall of the restaurant and in mosaic glass floor tiles, her intricate illustrations imagine key menu ingredients—lobster, coconuts, and other tropical elements floating freely amid fantastical greenery, untethered by gravity or convention.
