The project is a renovation of a 58.8 square meter resale apartment in Zhongshan District, Taipei. The homeowner, dissatisfied with the original palette and limited storage, envisioned a space imbued with the gentleness of a milky-brown palette. A devotee of coffee, yoga, and cooking, she sought not only functionality but also a contemplative, light-filled home—equally suited for peaceful solitude and lively gatherings with friends. Curves and flowing light were employed as the unifying design language, weaving together the fragmented split-level structure into a coherent and balanced rhythm.
The design’s essence lies in the reorganization of circulation and daylight. By relocating the staircases to one side, the designer freed the central living and dining areas, enabling natural light to sweep unimpeded through glass partitions. At the heart of the home, the island merges seamlessly with the dining table, forming the social and functional core. It accommodates daily cooking and coffee brewing, yet its circular flow also supports gatherings of more than ten guests. Above, a sculpted arched lamp resolves structural constraints while anchoring proportion, becoming a signature motif for channeling natural light.
Function unfolds in subtle details. The refrigerator placement naturally delineates a foyer sequence of ingredients, washing, and cooking. A half-height glass partition maintains intimacy between living and dining levels; recessed illuminated handrails enhance safety for elders while elevating refinement. Every gesture balances practicality with elegance.
