Located in the heart of Northeast China, Changchun serves as the capital of Jilin Province, a strategic hub on the northern corridor of the Belt and Road Initiative, and the economic center of Northeast Asia. The Northeast Asia International Expo Center, situated in Yongchun New District, is enveloped by rich ecological resources and urban green corridors. Integrating exhibition, conference, hotel, and expo park functions, the design combines international sophistication with Chinese cultural essence and the unique character of Changchun, establishing a one-of-a-kind regional landmark.
Therefore, the soft furnishing and display design emphasize a narrative of regional identity, cultural heritage, and contemporary sophistication. Drawing from Northeast Asia’s natural and industrial culture, elements of mountains, rivers, clouds, forests, and historical motifs are translated into bespoke furniture, wall art, and lighting. VVIP reception areas feature wood carvings and layered crystal chandeliers inspired by peonies, symbolizing prosperity and elegance, while mural paintings and decorative lighting reflect seasonal landscapes, traditional motifs, and modern abstraction. Each furniture piece balances ergonomics, aesthetic appeal, and functional adaptability, creating immersive, comfortable, and visually rich environments.
Material selection and detailing enhance both cultural expression and spatial experience. North American walnut, high-performance textiles, and custom metal finishes convey refinement and durability, while traditional Chinese patterns such as auspicious clouds are reinterpreted in contemporary forms, harmonizing heritage with modernity. Lighting design integrates sculptural elements, accentuating textures and creating dynamic visual layers that complement both art installations and functional spaces.
The design concept extends beyond aesthetics to embrace experiential storytelling, guiding visitors through thematic narratives—from industrial history and regional ecology to artistic interpretation of local landscapes. Multi-functional lounge areas and meeting spaces feature flexible furnishings that support both social interaction and professional engagement, reflecting a seamless integration of practicality, comfort, and cultural sophistication.
This project demonstrates how soft furnishings, display systems, and interior elements can be orchestrated to transform a large-scale public expo center into a coherent, culturally resonant, and engaging environment, highlighting Changchun’s identity and creating a memorable experience for international visitors.
