This project explores how a moment of human movement can be transformed from a flat image into a physical space people can experience. I started with a video of a baseball pitch and chose seven key frames that showed the shifting posture of the body as the motion unfolded. In each frame, I traced the figure to find the main lines of tension, direction, and balance. I then simplified these into smooth, flowing curves that expressed not just the pose, but also the energy and rhythm of the body in motion.
From these drawings, I built seven abstract figures using iron wire, bending and shaping it to capture the underlying structure of each pose. Black stockings were stretched over the wire to create volume and surface, their tension echoing the strain and release in the motion itself. I left certain areas open to let light, air, and shadow move through, giving the forms a sense of breath and openness.
I arranged the seven sculptures in a sequence so the viewer could walk through them like a timeline of movement. At this stage, I began imagining the work as a place people could actually inhabit. I designed three floating floors made of rigid paper, weaving them between and around the sculptures so visitors could experience each moment from different heights and perspectives. Each floor was shaped to follow the curves of the wire, which took many rounds of adjustment to achieve a balance between structure and design. Finally, I added stairways connecting the levels, allowing movement through the space to echo the dynamic energy of the original baseball pitch.
The result is a project that begins as a study of motion and ends as an imagined architectural space, one where movement isn’t just seen, but felt.
