Perched at 1,630 meters above sea level in Huangshan Mountain Scenic Area, this six-decade-old state guesthouse has been meticulously transformed into a 16,600-square-meter alpine retreat that harmoniously blends heritage preservation with contemporary hospitality concepts. The project redefines mountain luxury through its poetic integration with nature while respecting the site's historical significance.
Confronting alpine construction challenges, the design team pioneered an innovative transport system combining cable cars, human porters, and pack animals to deliver disassembled materials uphill. Lightweight yet durable eco-friendly materials were prioritized, with precisely calculated dimensions minimizing waste. The facade combines aluminum panels with vacuum insulation boards, preserving traditional aesthetics while dramatically improving thermal performance. Interior circulation was reorganized along a clear central axis connecting functional zones, with added elevators resolving vertical mobility.
The layout masterfully balances heritage and modernity: the lobby incorporates mountain tea house elements, specialty restaurants showcase Huizhou cultural essence, and the spa area cultivates meditative tranquility. Guestrooms embody "refined naturalism," employing air-tight windows, inverter AC systems and other energy-saving features to ensure comfort. Smart energy monitoring and LED lighting have significantly reduced operational consumption.
Notably sustainable practices include repurposing construction debris into compressed bricks, adopting air-source heat pumps for hot water, and selecting low-maintenance materials throughout. These innovations not only overcame high-altitude construction constraints but achieved both ecological and economic benefits.
Now revitalized, this alpine property has emerged as Huangshan's new hospitality landmark. It honors the state guesthouse's legacy while reinterpreting mountain resort aesthetics through contemporary design language, offering global travelers a spiritual sanctuary to commune with the sea of clouds.
