“Energy Boost Guide” is an urban-scale art installation that reimagines how commercial architecture can merge art, technology, and public engagement. Inspired by the concept of an “energy station,” the design transforms Shanghai Century Link Tower into a vibrant hub where visitors are invited to recharge both visually and emotionally. Through the use of bold sculptural forms, vivid pixel-inspired aesthetics, and programmable lighting systems, the project creates an immersive cultural landmark that speaks to the digital generation and resonates across both physical and virtual dimensions.
The installation redefines the building’s presence within the city by integrating lightweight inflatable modules that wrap around the façade, making it possible to install ultra-large-scale forms directly on the architecture. Embedded LED lights allow these structures to glow from within, producing a soft yet striking diffusion of light that activates the skyline at night and establishes a powerful urban identity. At the plaza level, the “Energy Boost Hub” extends this dialogue into an interactive public space. With its oversized arcade-like forms, dynamic lighting, and vibrant graphics, the hub transforms into a playful social arena where visitors are encouraged to interact with the installation, explore its visual language, and engage in moments of shared experience.
The design carefully balances material innovation and experiential quality. The installation’s steel framework ensures structural stability, while its wooden surfaces, meticulously sanded and painted, shape the overall form. High-precision printed graphics enrich the visual layering, and acrylic corridors with integrated UV graphics and LED lighting create a unique day-to-night transformation. During the day, the space radiates energy with saturated colors and clear imagery, while at night it evolves into a luminous passage of light and shadow, heightening the sense of immersion and discovery.
Ultimately, “Energy Boost Guide” transcends conventional notions of commercial design by turning a shopping complex into a cultural stage. It amplifies the connection between people and place, integrates architectural scale with artistic imagination, and creates an urban destination that is as iconic in the day as it is transformative at night.
