"Resilience", as the key theme of the 2025 Graduation Exhibition of the School of Architectural Art and Design, Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, conveys our reflections on the future of architecture amid an environment rife with uncertainties: how to navigate through design practice, grow amidst changes, and forge ahead in the face of challenges.
"Resilience" is an approach to addressing real-world tensions and also a capacity to keep moving forward in an era of uncertainty. It is neither rigid resistance nor compliant retreat, but rather maintaining strength in softness and seeking order amid changes.
Innovative Presentation: "Airbags" as the Tangible Expression of "Resilience"
To transform the abstract concept of "resilience" into a visible and tangible exhibition experience, we take "airbags" as the core carrier and symbol. Their physical properties naturally align with the core essence of "resilience": based on soft materials, they form stable support through internal tension; when subjected to external forces, they can deform to cushion and reduce impact, return to their original state once the pressure fades, and can also be disassembled, reconfigured, and reused.
Work Value
This exhibition transforms "resilience" from an abstract concept into a touchable and participatory spatial experience. It not only demonstrates the design discipline’s ability to respond to contemporary issues, but also offers practical reference directions of "being soft yet strong, changeable yet unbreakable" for the future development of architecture and design.
