Vessels of Self-Radiance showcases glass artworks created by artists using the microwave kiln/oven and reduction techniques. The exhibition invites visitors to witness the fusion of craftsmanship and aesthetics, and to appreciate how glass art can illuminate and enrich everyday life.
The microwave kiln technique enables the creation of glass art in household settings. Even children as young as three to five years old, under the guidance of an instructor, can craft their own glass pieces. By promoting early engagement with glass art, the exhibition encourages creativity from a young age while demonstrating how everyday appliances can be used in eco-friendly artmaking—advancing environmental sustainability.
The exhibition’s title symbolizes the inner radiance of artists who, through years of exploration and innovation, have cultivated profound skills and insight into the art of glassmaking. Their works naturally reveal distinctive textures and unique charm.
The collection features jewelry, ornaments, vases, and other functional and decorative objects—bringing the clarity and brilliance of glass into daily life.
Sustainability Initiative:
Over 70% of waste glass from LEDs, flat panels, and used bottles in Taiwan is recycled and repurposed in Hsinchu, making the city an ideal hub for advancing sustainability efforts. This exhibition highlights environmental responsibility by featuring durable materials and energy-efficient techniques. While glass art traditionally relies on natural gas, the exhibition introduces workshops that employ microwave ovens as an alternative—reducing energy consumption and promoting cleaner practices.
Known as the “Windy City,” Hsinchu has also embraced green energy, with its coastal wind turbines now helping to power artistic creation and inspire a new vision of sustainable art.
