Chief curator Wenbo Wu has created different themed spaces for the exhibition area, including "Mirror Maze", "Spiral Eyes", "Lixiang Square", and "Five-Color Character-Making Platform", inviting visitors to engage directly with the form and energy of Chinese characters, evoking a profound sense of cultural depth and breadth through wonder and contemplation.
Through carefully tailored lighting designs for each zone, the lighting scheme establishes a cohesive and thematically resonant atmosphere, enhancing the spatial narrative and contributing expertise to the presentation and evolution of Chinese character culture.
Mirror Maze: Chaos and Order
The Mirror Maze zone recounts the ancient myth of the Battle of Zhuolu.
The lighting here employs a quiet, understated, and warm atmosphere, simulating ancient campfires and battles. Diffused through a subtle haze, it enhances the spatial mystery. The motion-active lighting creates moments of surprise and interaction, guiding visitors forward.
Spiral Eye · Universal Metacode
The Spiral Eye zone explores the mythological origin of Chinese civilization, in which a prophet, Cangjie, the inventor of Chinese characters, who "observed the heavens with his eyes and communed with the divine through his heart."
By elevating the fixtures installation position and projection angles, the lighting ensures clear illumination of the dual-perspective transparent eye without exposing the luminaire directly to view. The central eyeball installation integrates internal and base lighting to accentuate a layered, interwoven three-dimensional texture.
Lixiang Square · Five-Color Oracle
At Lixiang Square, the Five-Color Character-Creating Platform symbolizes the birth of symbols and collective memory.
Colored lighting corresponds to the Wu Xing (Five Elements), transforming written characters into a medium bridging heaven and humanity. Light streaming through the tower’s narrow gaps adds a layer of poetic depth and ritual solemnity to the scene.
