Still, I see is a proposition born from the dynamic relationship of mutual observation and ever-renewed perspectives among the “author”, the work, and the audience. The book consists of two chapters, compiling author Yan Feng’s reflections and insights from early drafts to creations, and from life experiences to artistic expression.
The design stems from the surface and depth of “still seeing” using circular and square die-cut windows to connect the slipcase, cover, and inner pages, with the hole serving as a symbol of “seeing” that runs throughout. The slipcase is printed with luminescent ink, revealing subtle differences between day and night as light changes.
The pure white cover, embossed with a colorless debossing technique, encases vibrant inner pages, echoing the process of a painting evolving from a blank canvas to a finished work. The flaps reproduce the opening text but employ two different printing methods, suggesting varied interpretations of the same content from different perspectives, deepening the multidimensionality of “still seeing”.
The content of the work is closely tied to natural elements, making blue-green the dominant color, printed on the head margin, a hue frequently used in the artist’s works. The footer retains traces of original printing marks, resonating with the depiction of the creative process.
Thus, the three edges of the book block present distinct states: from blank to raw to vibrantly colorful, like time slices recording the life track of the work, while mirroring the author’s personal journey.
The paper is selected from long-fiber, low-density eco-friendly stock, lightweight yet resilient, aligning with the unpretentious quality of the work and authentically presenting the author’s reflections on life and creation.
