Constrained by a tight site, the community’s public realm is layered in sequence to create a rich spectrum of scenes.
The pedestrian gateway is deliberately off-axis and approached by a turning path, evoking the experience of “winding path leads to a secluded quiet place” of Jiangnan gardens. In the reception lounge a partial raise of the mid-zone ceiling preserves sightlines from neighboring residence building while amplifying the sense of interior spaciousness. A super-scale glass curtain wall at the core dissolves the boundary between inside and outside.
A sunken courtyard, stepped terraces and structural frames mirror one another, forging a quiet corner. The moon-bridge in the forecourt echoes Shaoxing’s “small bridges over flowing water,” while the second court’s vignettes weave in symbols of rice wine and pearl tea, turning every scene into a carrier of culture.
The façade interweaves local heritage: curved, multi-segment pale-stone planes unfurl like a scroll, celebrating the city’s calligraphic tradition; custom perforated panels woven into the main elevation allude to silk gauze, allowing a contemporary tactics and ancestral memory integration.
