Situated in Linqing, China—a city steeped in the 500-year heritage of the Grand Canal—this project confronts the monotony of high-density housing prevalent in smaller cities. The design team aims to shatter conventions and redefine the benchmark for "quality living" in county-level environments. We refuse to let architecture become a barrier to nature. Instead, we established a core philosophy of "Architecture Yielding to Nature," attempting to revitalize land value and return to the poetic essence of dwelling amidst urbanization.
Anchored by an ultra-low Floor Area Ratio (FAR) of 1.31, the design adopts a bold strategy of "humble retreat." Through a staggered building arrangement, the project creates expansive inter-building spacing exceeding 46 meters. This layout not only maximizes the penetration of natural light and wind but also returns precious land to the garden landscape. The buildings are no longer isolated structures but "viewing vessels" nestled in nature; every window becomes a natural frame, curating a low-density, sanctuary-like atmosphere within the bustling city.
To recreate a villa-level experience in a vertical dimension, we innovated the "Sky Villa" product line. The design introduces a breakthrough 6.6-meter double-height living room void and a panoramic terrace, combined with an integrated LDK (Living-Dining-Kitchen) circulation system. This approach dissolves the physical boundaries between indoors and outdoors, effectively transplanting traditional "courtyard life" into the sky. It grants residents of this third-tier city access to spatial standards and lifestyles usually reserved for first-tier luxury developments.
The facade serves as a contemporary translation of the local Grand Canal context. Utilizing a refined combination of high-transparency glass and aluminum panels, we created a "transparent," minimalist, and fluid aesthetic. This design not only echoes the dynamic flow of the canal water but also ensures maximized visual connectivity with the surrounding landscape.
Haitang Shangyuan demonstrates that high-caliber design wisdom is fully realizable in county-level cities. It is more than a residence; it is a paradigm of modern living that prioritizes symbiosis with nature, cultural depth, and quality. The project drives a dual elevation of regional living standards and cultural identity.
