Situated in Kitashinchi, Osaka—one of Japan’s most competitive luxury entertainment districts—the design of club arch explores how a venue can establish a distinct identity and remain memorable within a dense urban nightlife landscape.
The project takes its primary inspiration from the club’s name, arch, translating this simple yet powerful form into a spatial language that runs consistently throughout the interior. The goal was to communicate the club’s character in a direct and honest manner, leaving guests with a clear and lasting impression.
As the elevator doors open, guests are immediately greeted by an arch-shaped perforated metal feature. This moment marks the transition from the everyday into a heightened, anticipatory experience. A corridor leading to the main hall further amplifies this sense of excitement, guiding guests deeper into the space.
The main approach, positioned between the left and right halls, incorporates perforated metal panels that echo the arch motif, creating visual continuity with the entrance. At times, this approach functions as a runway for the cast; their silhouettes subtly emerge through the perforations, intentionally revealing and concealing movement to build anticipation.
Within the hall, triangular arch-shaped perforated metal columns are rhythmically arranged along the walls. While perforated metal is typically perceived as a hard, masculine architectural material, finishing it in a warm brass tone transforms its character. Combined with indirect lighting, the material softens the atmosphere, enhancing the elegance and glamour of the cast while enveloping the space in a sensual, refined ambiance. Hidden among the perforations is a single heart-shaped cutout, a playful detail inviting quiet discovery.
Select wall surfaces feature a custom finish blending black, gray, and silver. This organic pattern was introduced to counterbalance the inherent orderliness of perforated metal, adding depth and visual complexity. The motif references smoke—a metaphor for elusiveness and allure—infusing the space with narrative nuance.
The two VIP rooms each employ a sequence of objects composed of varied curved forms, creating dynamic, luxurious environments distinct from the main hall.
club arch is conceived as a sophisticated adult interior—an immersive, non-ordinary experience where refined design and subtle playfulness coexist.
