UMMC ARENA

UMMC ARENA is a multifunctional sports and cultural complex in Yekaterinburg. It ranks among the best sports venues in Europe. UMMC ARENA has a seating capacity of up to 15,000 spectators.
We faced the task of creating a new light dominant in the city, taking into account the perception of the object from various viewpoints. The main idea of the lighting design is the creation of a dynamic light ring around the perimeter of the arena, inspired by the architecture of the structure and the UMMC logo. To achieve maximum integration with the complex geometry of the ventilated façade, the resolution of the media field gradually transitions from highest in the central part to a more dispersed pattern in the upper and lower sections of the facade.
The mesmerizing media facade, ambient lighting, and media ring create a cohesive light surface that allows for the demonstration of various lighting scenes and communication with observers. For instance, it can display match results, current season information, and other updates from key viewing points, including distant ones. Through detailed 3D modeling, we were able to develop specialized themed scenarios: those highlighting the architecture, branding initiatives, 3D scenarios, festive, and sports events synchronized with matches. Additionally, we created generative content that is not time-bound, which accentuates and not distorts the architecture of the object, crafting new images of perception.
The lighting project is a unified, comprehensive multi-level system that integrates the media facade, ambient fill lighting, media ring lighting in the pedestrian area, accent lighting for signage and entrance groups, functional illumination of the surrounding area, decorative lighting for the stylobate, and fully-rotating floodlights on the roof. The exterior lighting can operate both in conjunction with the media facade and autonomously.
Glare-reducing accessories have been applied to all equipment, as it is located near residential apartments. It was crucial for us to ensure safety for people during the evening hours, as comfort and eco-friendliness are our priorities.
The construction of the Arena has become an important event for the city, serving as a pivotal point for transforming the waterfront space.
