Yunhe Tourist Attraction Upgrading Project is located on a peninsula at the confluence of three rivers in Yunhe County, Lishui, Zhejiang Provincei,China. Drawing on Yunhe’s setting—where clouds and mist rise—the design infuses the idea of time, allowing the space to grow naturally into a garden. In a contemporary idiom, it creates a “museum without walls” that integrates cultural display, public activity, and landscape into an open, hybrid, and sustainable public realm. The project activates underused land, explores synergies between ecological protection and public participation, and offers a replicable spatial model for rural revitalization and cultural sustainability.
The two primary buildings form the core spatial experience of the site, presenting contrasting yet complementary spatial logics. One square and One circular, both echoing time. Spatially, they suggest rotation and shifting over time. Materially, both use weathering-steel facades whose durability, low maintenance, and naturally oxidizing patina embody time and strengthen the dialogue between architecture and environment. Pavilion One, a circular building on the waterfront, uses its rotating form to unfold a continuous sequence—garden, courtyard, gallery, café—culminating in a second-floor circular viewing deck with a 360-degree view of the three-river confluence. Pavilion Two, a square volume set deeper on site, offers a quieter atmosphere; its roof slopes toward the water and is framed by preserved and reinterpreted waterscapes. Offsets between the roof geometry, interiors, and courtyard walls create varied scales and subtle spatial tension.
The project translates the local environment and cultural context into a contemporary spatial language, balancing cultural identity with international legibility.
